This page explains, in plain words, what happens to your information when you use this website: what we collect, who else is involved, and how to ask us to delete it. It is written for guests everywhere, including visitors from the European Union. Please read it alongside our Terms & Conditions and Cookie Policy.

Who we are

Mubanga Lodge, Banza Quitel, Ícolo e Bengo, near Luanda, Angola, is responsible for the information described on this page. You can reach us at mubangalodge@gmail.com or +244 933 207 093.

What we collect

Only what you type, and only when you choose to send us something.

A request you send us — your name, email address, phone number, the dates and number of guests, the room or day visit you chose, your meal plan, and any note you add.
A newsletter sign-up — your email address, and only if you tick the box.
Nothing else. There are no accounts on this site, we take no payment here, and we never ask for identity documents or card details online.

Our host also keeps ordinary server records for a short time, such as the internet address your request came from, in order to deliver the site and protect it from attack.

How your request reaches us

When you finish a request, the website opens WhatsApp with your details already written into the message, and you press send. From that moment it is a normal WhatsApp conversation between you and the lodge, and WhatsApp's own privacy policy applies to it. We reply there to confirm availability, the rate and the deposit.

We keep a copy of confirmed bookings in our own records, so that we can prepare your stay and keep our accounts.

Why we are allowed to use it (for guests in the EU)

To answer you and prepare your stay — the steps you asked us to take before and during a booking.
Because you said yes — the newsletter, which you can leave at any time.
To keep the site working and safe — our own legitimate interest in delivering the pages and stopping abuse.
To keep our books — the legal and accounting obligations of a business in Angola.

Who else is involved

We keep this list as short as we can. Today it is:

Cloudflare — hosts this website and delivers its pages.
Sanity — stores the text and photographs that make up the site, and serves the photographs to your browser.
Google — the typefaces the pages use load from Google Fonts, so Google receives the internet address your browser connects from. The map on our location and room pages loads only if you tap "Show map"; until then nothing from Google Maps is loaded.
WhatsApp (Meta) — carries your request and our conversation, from the moment you press send.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising.

Not switched on today

Two things are built into this site but are off: an email service (Brevo) that would keep a copy of requests and newsletter sign-ups, and visitor analytics. While they are off, nothing you type on this website is stored by us outside your own browser and your WhatsApp conversation. If we switch either on, we will update this page and, for analytics, ask you first.

What stays in your browser

This site sets no cookies. It does keep two small items in your browser's local storage, so that you do not lose your place:

"My plan" — the experiences you ticked.
An unfinished request — the room, dates and number of guests you had chosen and, on the day-visit and group forms, the name, email address and phone number you had typed, so that you can come back and carry on.

Both stay on your device. They are not sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes them. The Cookie Policy explains this in more detail.

How long we keep things

Booking records — for as long as your stay and our accounting require.
WhatsApp conversations — for as long as the chat exists on our phone; you can delete your side at any time.
Items in your browser — until you clear them.

Where your information goes

The lodge is in Angola, and our service providers are outside the European Union. When you send us a request from the EU, your information travels to Angola and to those providers. Angola is not on the European Commission's list of countries with an adequacy decision, so the protection is the one this page and your agreement with us describe.

Children

Requests should be made by an adult. We only hold a child's first name or age when a parent gives it to us as part of a booking.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can leave the newsletter at any time. Write to mubangalodge@gmail.com and we will answer as quickly as we can. If you are in the European Union and our answer does not satisfy you, you may complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Changes to this page

If what we do changes, we will change this page and the date at the top.
